Sep - 2009

New open access no-fee journal on rural neurosciences
  • Journal of Neurosciences in Rural Practice (www.ruralneuropractice.com) is new semi-annual peer-reviewed open access journal to be published from January 2010 on behalf of the Associacion Ayuda Enfermo Neuroquirurgico. The journal would not charge the authors for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts and would provide immediate free access to all its content.

Annals of African Medicine joins Medknow
  • Annals of African Medicine (AAM) to be published by Medknow. AAM is quarterly publication of Annals of African Medicine Society. The journal is peer-reviewed open access publication and would be available online from its new website www.annalsafrmed.org. Articles can be submitted online from www.journalonweb.com.
Access and author-side fee policies
  • A new page giving 'at a glance' view of access and author-side fee policies of different journals published by Medknow has been created. This can be accessed from http://www.medknow.com/policies.asp.

Two new titles in MEDLINESaudi Journal of Anesthesia to be published by Medknow
  • Saudi Journal of Anesthesia (www.saudija.org) is the official publication of the Saudi Anaesthetic Association. From the November 2009, the journal will be published by Medknow and would be open access without author-side fees.
New no-fee, open access journal
  • Systematic Reviews in Pharmacy (www.sysrevpharm.org) is new open access journal published on behalf of the InPharm Association. The journal does not charge the authors for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts. All articles will be made available online freely immediately on publication. The first issue will be published in December 2009. To begin with the journal will be published semi-annually.
JCVJS is now online
  • Journal of Craniovertebral Junction and Spine (www.jcvjs.com) is first peer-reviewed journal exclusively devoted the problems of craniovertebral junction. The journal does not charge the authors for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts. All articles will be made available online freely immediately on publication. The first issue will be published in January 2010. The journal will have two issues in its first year.
Annals of Saudi Medicine joins Medknow
  • From August 2009, the Annals of Saudi Medicine (www.saudiannals.net), a bimonthly multidisciplinary medical journal from the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, KSA, will be published by Medknow. The journal is largest circulated peer-reviewed publication in the Middle East. The journal is indexed with PubMed, EMBASE, Science Citation Index and had an Impact Factor of 0.6 for the year 2008. ASM will be made be open access and would not charge the authors any publication fee.

  • The 2008 Impact Factor® as announced by Thomson Reuters for the Journal of Postgraduate Medicine is 1.538. The journal got its first IF this year.
  • Impact Factor® 2008 for the Neurology India is 1.09. The IF has increased from 0.645 as in 2007

  • Journal of Young Pharmacists (www.jyoungpharm.in) is a quarterly, peer-reviewed, publication of the InPharm Association. The journal will provide immediate free access to all its contents and will not charge the authors for submission, processing or publication of articles.

Medknow partners with GlobEthics to develop ethics journals
  • GlobEthics and Medknow Publications have signed an agreement to cooperate in the acquisition, production, subscription, distribution, availability and marketing of online and print journals on applied ethics, worldwide, with a special focus on ethics journals from developing and transition countries.
    The objective is to increase global access to these journals, especially via the Globethics.net Online Library and the journals’ individual websites. Most of the journals in the project would offer immediate open access to the contents.
    African Journal of Business Ethics would be the first journal to go full text online as a part of this project. It is expected that at least 15 journals would be participating in the project in its first year.
5,000 manuscripts submitted for the year
  • The monthly submissions to Medknow journals now crosses the mark of 1,250. Today, on 30th April, the 5,000th manuscript was submitted on Medknow's manuscript submission site www.journalonweb.com.
Full Archives of IJHG online
  • Indian Journal of Human Genetics (www.ijhg.com) now has its entire archive from Vol 1, 1995 onwards available online with free access.
30,000+ full articles online with Medknow
  • Medknow now hosts 30,000+ full text articles either in the PDF and/or HTML formats.
    Medknow's collection is unique by many ways:

    1. Most of the articles are from traditional access journals which have converted to open access
    2. Readers do not have to register or login to access full articles including the PDF files
    3. Majority of these articles have been generated without a publication or processing fee
    4. The database includes latest articles published Ahead of Print; from current issues published online without any embargo; and from the archives dating back to 1951
    5. All the articles in a given journal are open access

New peer-reviewed open access journal in Ayurveda
  • The International Journal for Ayurveda Research (IJAR), a publication of Dept. of AYUSH, Govt. of India, is a quarterly peer-reviewed international journal. This is the first journal from India that can present to the world the wealth of science generated in Ayurveda in the medical schools and research organizations in the country. The journal aims to provide a common platform for publication of research in Ayurveda and to promote research culture among students of Ayurveda. IJAR will update its reader on research in Traditional medicine in the country and abroad. The journal will also have a special section for research students giving them a direction for their future goals.

    The journal allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository. The journal does not charge for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts and even for color reproduction of photographs. Articles to IJAR can be submitted online from www.journalonweb.com/ijar.

  • From 2009, Medknow will publish following new open access journals
    1. Journal of Craniovertebral Junction and Spine

    Both the journals will be online by February end. Both the journals will have no author-side fee and articles can be submitted online from
    www.journalonweb.com.
Conservation and Society to be published by Medknow
  • Conservation and Society www.conservationandsociety.org is a quarterly peer-reviewed open access interdisciplinary journal dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice of conservation. The journal draws on both natural and social sciences and covers basic and applied research in areas including but not restricted to political ecology, human-wildlife conflicts, decentralised conservation, conservation policy, ecosystem structure and functioning, systematics, community and species ecology, behavioural ecology, landscape ecology, restoration ecology and conservation biology.

    The journal publishes submitted and commissioned articles, debates and discussions, editorials, book reviews, comments and notes, and reader feedback. Articles can be submitted online from www.journalonweb.com.
